The Handbasket Can’t Have Much Further to Go…
Between today’s (effective) legalization of gay marriage in Massachusetts, my general level of disgust with all of the leaders supposedly representing my interests in government or vying for that privilege, the insanity one can witness driving through downtown Atlanta, and the depressing dearth of people my age with any kind of internally consistent belief/value system, I think Jay Leno’s comment last night was well nigh correct:
It’s the end of the world.
Humanity has never been perfect, but we once had more or less figured out which way was up, what was acceptable and what was not, and what to do – at least in general terms – when things went wrong. We – western civilization – haven’t just lost our moral compass; we’ve forgotten what it looks like. Any danged arrow will serve just fine – as long as it points somewhere, it must be somewhere worth going. We may do the right thing for the wrong reasons and lie about the reasons we’re invoking, or we may just do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons… either way, call it “reality television” or call it “reality,” you can probably find fifty million registered voters who think it’s a great idea.
The radio today said that the station has proclaimed this to be “God Bless America Week.” Personally, my main thought is, “God, forgive America…”
