Test Drive – F-150 XLT 4×4 SuperCrew

I test-drove an F-150 XLT 4×4 SuperCrew, today. Hopefully, I will be buying an F-150 in the very near future. I seriously doubt I’ll buy the 4×4, but there were no readily available 4×2’s, around. I would love to have the 4×4, but have only encountered a handful of non-winter situations in which a good 4×2 and a good driver couldn’t cut it; I don’t expect to be back in those situations, soon, so it’s hard to justify the extra cost, though it would help in the Chicago winters…

Anyway, all in all, it was a good ride. Acceleration, handling, and braking were all better than I had expected, to be honest. The acceleration with the 5.4L V8 was good, though it won’t win any drag races. A smaller engine just wouldn’t cut it, though. The ride was definitely smooth and quiet, both on city streets and on the Interstates. Interior room was great. The 40-20-40 bench and captain’s chairs offered about equal comfort; since they both offer lumbar support, I’m not really persuaded to spend $700 on the captain’s chairs. A/C – very important – was easy to direct and plenty powerful. Mirrors and visibility were good.

It’s a good truck. I’ve got to do some research on some options, but I’m generally pretty pleased.
