When a Canadian police officer teaching about appropriate attitudes towards women comes under fire for suggesting that some cultures disrespect women, or a British schoolmaster loses his job for suggesting that assimilation of immigrants causes less division than encouraging multiple cultures to retain their distinctive identities in a single location, I wonder if we (Western, democratic nations) haven’t already lost the ideological war. Perhaps that’s why so few people find it worthwhile to fight back against the groups and nations that promote attacks on our way of life: they can’t bring themselves to argue that we might have something better to offer than those who attack us, because it would be “racist” or “insensitive.”

Despite this lack of self-confidence and the fact that plenty of people want to blow up most of North America, some people here have nothing better to do than harrass a town in New York for having an offensive (in English) Dutch name…
