About the Author

This site is the web home of Ed Cottrell, a follower of Christ, husband, dad, software developer, and attorney in Houston, Texas. I am a man of eclectic tastes, having dual-majored in Mathematics and Religious Studies at Rice University, spent some time as an entrepreneur, then gotten my law degree at the University of Chicago Law School. In the meantime, I have managed to live for varying amounts of time on four continents, which I hope has given me a broader perspective on the world than I might have otherwise had.

This site is structured around four main themes: faith, politics, law, and technology.

Theologically, I am a Protestant Christian, specifically a Southern Baptist. I believe in a traditional, creedal faith, and think there are certain things the Southern Baptist churches in particular get right (which is not at all to say that I agree with everything in the history of the SBC; I do not). You can read more on these things in the faith section of the site.

Politically, I am conservative, in the sense that Russell Kirk, William F. Buckley, Jr., and Edmund Burke were conservatives. You can read more on these things in the politics section of the site.

Legally, I am admitted to the bars of the State of Texas, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. I am employed as a senior attorney at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP. Before that, I worked at two of the largest law firms in the nation and at the First Court of Appeals for the State of Texas. I occasionally write about the law on this site, as well.

My other interests are many and varied, though technology is predominant. I am the founder and co-owner of Cereblitz LLC, which makes shopping cart software for customizable products, and Sport and Safety LLC, a web-based retailer of various safety products, especially hand safety products by Glove Guard. I also worked as a web-based entrepreneur for several years prior to law school. I no longer own any stake in or work at two companies I helped found: Safe At Hand, or an earlier venture, Topsail Consulting, which specialized in custom web development and marketing; these days, my tech interests are mostly focused on blogging, spam filtering, and finance.

There is an unwieldy and large collection of other material on this site, which resulted in a recent redesign. A complete list of the site’s contents may be found on my sitemap.
