I loved playing poker before poker was cool. I think I learned my first poker variety at age 6. These days, I play with friends and in free tournaments (Georgia Poker Nights). I also blog on poker. This area of the site will soon contain rules, products, stories from the tables, and more.
I play Texas Hold 'Em, mostly, though I grew up on various draw and stud games. When I'm not playing live or (for free) on-line, I like to practice against my computer. There are quite a few software packages out there; I am familiar enough with two of them to comment on them:
- Poker Academy & Poker Academy Pro: I bought this (Pro version) just recently, and it is excellent. It has nearly everything I would have put into a poker playing program, plus very good AI; the features it lacks are scheduled for version 2.0, due to be released in the middle of 2005. Some highlights: bankroll tracking (and filtering by various conditions, such as table size and pocket cards), showdown calculators, customizable opponents, stackable decks, and various modes (limit, no-limit, tournament). - DD Tournament Poker: I bought this when I first ran into Hold 'Em competition I couldn't handle; I regret it. It's slow, ugly, and almost totally lacking in analysis tools for play improvement. I do not recommend this product. Poker Academy costs more, but delivers much more bang for the buck.
