FOSS OTD: Memtest86

“What?”, you ask? “FOSS OTD” = “Free / Open Source Software Of The Day.” I’m going to try this out, though it’s likely to be somewhat sporadic; I do, after all, have classes to pass!

Anyway, the selection for the day is Memtest86, a Stand-Alone Memory Diagnostic. Memtest86 will help you find memory problems (hopefully) before they cause a disaster and is licensed under the GPL. I used it to discover the fact that one of my RAM chips was not quite seated perfectly, causing occasional misfires and random glitches. Surprise! I’m now a big fan.
